Hey, I know that the release just came out recently, but can you talk to mozilla about updating your extension in Firefox 1.0.4? They disabled all extensions that aren't known to be compatible with 1.0.4 when I updated from 1.0.3. Just a heads up. Thanks in advance.

Adblock is compatible with 1.0.4. Try this:

1. Tools > Extensions
2. Right-click Adblock and choose Disable
3. Restart Firefox
4. Tools > Extensions
5. Right-click Adblock and choose Enable
6. Restart Firefox

I'm having similar problems.

My extensions are all greyed out. May not be related to adblock, but it's stopping adblock from working.

I've reinstalled firefox several times & deleted all traces etc.

The only time adblock comes back online is if I install over the existing installation & get the program to run following installation.

However, when I close firefox & run it up again, all my extensions are greyed out again.

Anyone familiar with this?

If you've gone to this extreme, do me a favor and follow the How to really do a clean upgrade instructions and tell me if that still doesn't work for you.

Spotted this on a flyby for some new addblock rules, I had problems upgrading to 1.0.4, removing my preference files, and then loading firefox again cured it.

Working on a new machine, clean install of 1.0.4 - never even been online; adblock-0.5-dev.xpi OR adblock-0.5.2.039-fx.xpi WILL NOT install.

Both giving "not compatible" message.

adblock-0.5.2.039-fx.xpi dload from https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=10&application=firefox

Will not install, even after rebooting.

Same here. I tried installing AdBlock on a *clean* install of FF1.0.4 (all traces of FF - including profile etc etc - were removed before installing the new FF), & it won't work at all. Won't even install in the first place.

Didn't work for me either.
Actually, on one of my PC's, wich is running Deep Freeze, I had no problem at all installing Firefox 1.0.4 and then Adblock, but on my other, Personal PC for my own use, I did a clean installation - didn't even import a single file - and still couldn't get adblock to work. It said it wasn't compatible. I'll try to do a manual installation based on what files are copied during the installation on the PC running Deep Freeze. Hope it works. I'll let y'all know.

This worked for me:

download the adblock-0.5-dev.xpi (right click -> save link as)
    unzip your adblock-0.5-dev.xpi file
open the install.rdf file in a text editor
    search for the <em:maxVersion> tag
change the number inside the tag (1.0.4+ worked for me)
save the install.rdf file into the same location you originally unzipped it in
    rezip all files as adblock-0.5-dev.xpi
    install the extension

Actually, I just opened adblock-0.5-dev.xpi in winzip and from within winzip opened install.rdf in a text editor, changed the line, saved the file and winzip rezipped it for me.

Thank you for the feedback -- I'm happy to know (though not happy it's true) that fresh install + official release doesn't work for all people.

Hopefully this helps people, good work with the directions

Actually that's why I've been posting this cleaned up version:
adblock-0.5.2.039.xpi

It just simply has the max version numbers bumped. If you install the official release it will only work if you are connected to the internet. (Firefox will see it's incompatible, max version number less than Fx 1.0, and checks the update url which tells that it's fine).

I connected the new machine to the net for the first time, went to the extensions site, and the official release installed without a problem, just as you say above.

Thank you all!
