It would be useful if AdBlock could remember the dat when it last matched a certain filter.

The purpose of this feature would be to allow the user to remove old and unused rules. For example, someone might add "http://site.com/images/randomcompany.gif". In this case, it's hard to construct a site wide filter since the user wants some images in the images directory to be displayed. After a month in rotation the randomcompany.gif ad is removed and replaced. Another month later and the user sees that the filter they made for it has not been matched for some time, and so they can remove it and thus keep the list of filters short and pattern matching fast.

Continuing with your thought: with Adblock storing the last-used date, it could also auto-prune based on a user-set age limit.
.
Yes, all this is coming.

Well in addition to last date used it might be useful to have a counter of times used over a certain period. That way you could make a better effectiveness assessment.
One additional suggeston would be to have a mechanism for capturing the Add url into a txt file. Maybe Right-click ! adblock ! capture
This file could be used later for either Bayesian methods, scripts or just eyeballing how to make better Filters.
