Posted: Tue Oct 17, 2006 Post subject: How do I block Pricegrabber pop-ups? |
|
|
I was initially very pleased with Adblock, and in its first week of use, I just had to maybe manually block (with the right-click menu) about a half dozen all week, so I wasn't really bothered at all. Today, I probably have blocked 10 Pricegrabber ads on a site I like, so this method does not appear to be a very effective long-term solution.
Is there some way to block ALL Pricegrabber ads in one fell swoop? Thanks |

go to this page:
http://www.fanboy.co.nz/adblock/
click on Current List (007B)
You will now see a bunch of text in your browser.
Right-click and select Adblock: Import Filters
Press OK when it prompts you.
Press Replace when it prompts you the second time.
You should now be able to go to your site with ads blocked. If not, it would be helpful if you mentioned the link. |

Right-click on what? I can only get that menu for Adblock to show when I have a banner I wish to banish and right-click on that. There is nothing at the bottom of my screen to right-click on, just the Firefox symbol near my "start" button and a bunch of unrelated icons near my clock on the bottom right.
I lucked out and think I got rid of Price Grabber. I did a right-click on one of their banners, and when a link popped up, I shortened it to just www.pricegrabber. com/*. That partially worked, but there seemed to be a new crop of ads each week, so then I changed the last part, maybe to "*banner"? I don't remember.
I would load your filter as well if you could tell what to right-click on when I don't currently have an ad to get rid of. But thanks for your post. |

The page is this one in case you clicked on the wrong link:
http://www.fanboy.co.nz/adblock/fanboy-adblocklist-current.txt
It's plain text. Place your cursor anywhere on that page and rght-click. You should see a menu pop up with the option Adblock : Import Filters
Adblock can be found here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/10/
There is Adblock Plus, and I dunno if you are using that. Maybe it does things differently. This works with the regular Adblock just fine. |

Thanks for trying again, foob. I right-clicked the filter list and the menu to add a filter popped up just like you wrote. |
