the offending ad is on this site http://football.guardian.co.uk/worldcup2006/story/0,,1802509,00.html

this is what came up in Adblock
http://adimage.guardian.co.uk/top_run_of_sites/2006april/bankofscotlandBANNER280406.gif

But using wildcards or the whole line would not block the ad.

There was a far worse ad which I can't find at the moment on the same guardian site that would not block. It was also in an iframe, the ad address was

http://media.fastclick.net/w/get.media?t=s&sid=26482&m=3&tp=3&f=b&v=1.4&c=1094&r=http%3A//football.guardian.co.uk/worldcup2006/story/0%2C%2C1802509%2C00.html&d=f

I tried using http://media.fastclick.net/* and also the whole line, but it would not block.

Have the guardian opened up a new front on the war on ads.

EDIT: it appears that the problem ad has now been replace with a flash ad which is blocked by flashblock. But I'm still wondering why adblock would not block the ad that I listed earlier?

try
ads.guardian.co.uk/*

then try
*overture* (too broad, but you can narrow it down afterward)

if either of these do the trick, create a filter based on them

On my own filterlist these 2 filters triggered on that page (all ads removed, no false positives):

/https?:\/\/r?ad([sz]?|images?|img|tech|net|click|serv(er?)?[\d\-\w]*)\./
/[.\/_](page|online|web)?ad(v(erts?)?|_banner|[zs\?]|click|image.php|ima?ge?[zs]?|serv(er?)?)?[\/\?]/

These filters need the Adblock option "Check Parant Links" to be enabled.

P.S. Shame about the knee of Owen.

OK thanks for that. For some reason the ads on that page have started beinb locked again. I'm not sure if it is because they changed them or what. However I will use these filters if I have any more problems on that site.

Perhaps better solution for you could be using something like Filterset.G?
