The New York Times has started using text only ad units. Although these don't flash at you, they are annoying because they break up the story that you are trying to read. Is there any way to block these? They could be filtered based on the url that the text links to, rather than the url for the text itself.

Add this code to your userContent.css:
Code:
td[class="globalnav"][bgcolor="#cccccc"] { display: none !important }

Tsk, tsk, tsk. They're google ads. Just add *googlesydication.com* to your filter and be done with it. These four entries in my filter block all the ads on that site, except for the compare prices thing (which requires usercontent or a proxy filter to get rid of):
adserv
/ads/
googlesyndication.com
click.net

I tried several articles with just the filters I posted previously, and didn't see a single ad.

btw Always include the "!important" declaration when using the usercontent file, otherwise the site's css will override your settings. ie;
NYT_TEXT{display:none !important;}
