I run my own website, and need to be able to see the ads there. I've also tried blocking *ad*, which then blocks stuff like download, or header, etc, which shouldn't be blocked. Is it possible to create a whitelist, so I can add my website and words like download and header to not be blocked?

If that was a feature-request, then yes- it's coming.
.
If not, then no- it's not here yet.
.
In the meantime, you can kind of hack it in regexp. For each character in the domain you don't want matched, enter it like this (replacing 'n'): [^n]
.
To block /banners from all domains *except* mydomain.com:
/[^m][^y][^d][^o][^m][^a][^i][^n][^\.][^c][^o][^m].*\/banners/

However, you can hack individual whitelists in regexp -- it just requires entering the prepath by hand.
.
Using negative-lookahead, you'll match all domains that aren't at the start of your pattern. The required portion is this:
/^(?!(prePath)).*adblockFilter/
.
Eg. to block all gifs except those from mydomain.com and yourdomain.com:
/^(?!(http:\/\/(mydomain|yourdomain)\.com)).*gif/
