I do not have the tools to build Mozilla projects. I just want the latest version of AdBlock. (The version that I have probably .3 or older. I am now running Mozilla 1.4, but do not see a way to check the current AdBlock version (that I have) or install the latest.

Adblock is an extension, which means it stands apart from the core software -- if you install to profile, you can even upgrade your browser without fear of losing it.
.
To determine your version: if Adblock's pref-window looks exactly like the one pictured here, then you're running v.4. If it has more options, then you're running v.5. But, if it looks nothing like that, then you're running v.3 or older.
.
If you're not running v.5, you'll need to manually deinstall: here's step-by-step instructions on how.
.
After that, head to the Dev. page for the latest build.

I have fewer options. The menu is completely missing. Would that be .3?

What does that do to my AdBlock data? I blocked images from many sites and do not want to start over.

Adblock stores all settings in the prefs.js file. Unless you manually edit them out, they'll remain.

OK. I uninstalled .3. How do I get the latest installed? Do I still have to compile? All I have for that is VC# (and the cheapest version of that).

rue <-- has no idea what VC# or it's cheap derivatives are.
.
Snapping back to first-person: just head here, read the notes, and click the install-link which follows.
.
Pretty easy, no?

Methinks he means Microsoft Visual C#, a derivate of C++.

Yea- that's the first thing that came to mind. It's just the way he consistently mentions "compiling" makes me second-guess everything he says.
.
I think.

Smile I mentioned compiling because the install page seemed to only provide source code. I never considered looking at the Dev page. You might want to swap them. Confused

Yes, VC# is common shorthand for Microsoft Visual C#. VC++ refers to Microsoft Visual C++. Most everyone here would hate them, but would anyone care to guess what VJ++ and VJ# stand for? Evil or Very Mad

Almost forgot, when rue mentioned uninstalling, I assumed that the AdBlock install page was detecting AdBlock was already installed and not making the XPI visible. So when the XPI link did not appear even after I manually uninstalled AdBlock, I returned here.

WLP:
I like the Dev. page being separate -- it contains notes, the changelog and sometimes other stuff.
.
I'll update the Install page to redirect more clearly.
