Odd. Many sources say Adblock was supposedly updated 9/12. But how can that be? The changelog [god forbid its clarity!] proves no such indication and no one has made any mention of it here or on the corresponding Adblock home pages. The version number's even the same.
Can someone explain what's going on?
And, could we consider summarizing the changelog then providing a more detailed log. It's a monstrosity to read through. But then again, a beauty to see such dedication and hardwork to make a changelog read that large! Great work, guys!
But, seriously... let's trim that puppy up a bit. Please? |

The version on update.mozilla.org was synchronized with the version offered on the Adblock homepage, and both were made compatible with the latest Firefox 1.0PR release. _________________ Adblock 0.5.3.042

And here's the explanation for the changelog:
.
Adblock has undergone fairly distinct periods of development. Circa v.3, the major advances were being authored by devs, for each other. The changelog was private, at that time. Development then moved into addressing user-concerns, testing being the focus. The changelog was made public.
.
As development progressed (v.4), new features were landing on a weekly basis with continual updating between. The sheer volume being released demanded a better system for build identification, so we moved to the following: version: for structural/core changes
build: milestone, for sets of changes, a-la feature-groups
nightly: daily progress on a build
pass: for multiple nightlies in a day This worked great, both for forum-citation ("n39" or "v.5") and changelog-formatting. If you scroll down to the v.4 section, you'll see how cleanly it logged: builds mattered; nightlies didn't.
.
When v.5 arrived, everything changed. Development ceased to be incremental, and releases were either massive (regarding code-change) or simply focused on patching up bugs. I should have switched how we were filing the changelog, but didn't. In fact, it was arbitrarily decided to hold-off on finalizing "d2" until whitelists had landed. Version 0.5 d2 was actually 39 nightlies, but filing continued as though build-numbers were the lowest point of concern. As a "hindsight-remedy", I posted a floating changelog for nightlies in the forum. It's not sticky, because that gives a better idea of how old it is.
.
Hope that helps. |
